she has to go shopping alone in Alamanda Putrajaya, when i have to be onsite supervising a lifting project in KLIA, and her GPS failed her, yet she managed to get me a new bed sheet

she experienced a bus breakdown during her very first visit to KL, two ways

she taught me how to keep fish in aquariums alive

she fell sick right before she had to board the car back to SG

1. Don't plan too much, you always have to wait longer than you expected for things to fall in place. just get on with the job and opportunities will find you

2. 80/20 rule, don't feed people too full, so they will keep working hard and become more competitive. Though it will suppress talent, Sg dun need Steve Jobs & Microsoft, only need George Yeo & Mah Bow Tan and only 1 LKY. American education system allows creativity to flourish, but majority of the people suffers because of laziness. Great leaders must understand human behaviour.

3. Must impress people on the first 6 months on your new job. First impression matters a lot.

4. If you feed people too well in good years, very hard to take back in bad years.

Just got back from a great holiday in Penang, had a lot of Char Kuey Teow, Cendol, Kepala, Sour Fish Head BeeHoon, Curry Powder Dim Sum, visited Cheong Fatt Tze House with the best feng shui in penang, made some new friends, went clubbing for 2 continuous nights.

1. Tone up, reduce weight to 65kg (was 65kg before the penang food)
2. Learn surfing in Bali (No)
3. Promote to marketing position (No)
4. spend more time with family (Yes, had a short gathering once in 2 months with all my siblings living in Msia now)
5. 1 new friend per month (can be more)
6. buy a property (almost got a xk shop, learnt the process and cash flow)
7. 50% into savings/assets (I think yes)
8. visit at least 1 neighbouring country (went to Ho Chi Minh with mom, andy and elaine, had a great time with the food and pretty vietnam girls)

I have had less than 10 hours of sleep for the past 2 days courtesy of Ryanair.

I have been in 4 countries in 1 day, again. Taking bus from Liechtenstein to Switzerland, taking train to French border of Swiss, departing from France and landing in Sweden.
The other time was Sweden, Swiss, Liechtenstein, Austria.

Basel is a small city, with a lot of Asians, quite surprising. I found it to be like Zurich, a size smaller.

Swedish girls are pretty, after not seeing them for 3 months. haha

We went to the HK Ocean Park on the fourth day, the queue for the shuttle bus in the morning at Admilraty Square is amazingly long. We didn't want to spend 2 hours standing in the queue and caught a taxi, which costed us more or less the same price.

See the 'sien' faces. It was the summer holiday of both HK and China which brought the crowd. We kept saying that don't come near to China anymore during the summer.

The cable car to the upper part of Ocean Park, which is very nice as you can have the coastline view of whatever bay that is.

The only cooling place in Ocean Park, air-conditioned restaurants.

Filling up some questionnaires from the CUHK to protect the pandas, just to get the free souvenir.

The exhibition in Langham Place, Mongkok which features many little boxes of creative artworks of students. We love Mongkok, the variety of food, the dynamic life of HK people and of course, our hotel.

I have been back for a week. Have been playing tennis with my sister almost every evening, she is my coach. Spending time just talking and catching up with family is great.

I managed to see my grandparents in Singapore also, my grandpa just underwent a bypass but he is fine now.

Caught up with my friends working in Singapore also, who are earning a considerable good salary and because of that, I got a treat everywhere.

Euro Summer 2007 Trip

I have departed from Como, Italy to Munich on 13th, last friday on my Euro trip.
I spent 3 nights in my friend's place in Munich, who happen to be a friend of my ex coursemate in UTM. He is really very very very kind. He even bought a temporary air filled bed for me. He and the other Malaysian cooked dinner for me every single evening, generous dinner. Thanks guys.

Munich, is one of the city that i want to live in, and in fact, it was voted before as one of the suitable cities to live in. The people never throw you a 'discriminating' look just because your skin colour is different from theirs, which I appreciate a lot, very unlikely to happen in Madrid. The cost of living is not actually that high, the food is around the price of Madrid, but definitely cheaper than Northern Italy. And German cities has very nice campus style hostel, which any students can apply to stay inside, very considerate.

My friend acted as a tour guide of Munich, showing me around, which is the best place to shoot pictures. The Allianz stadium which hosts Bayern Munich is impressive. I reached there, it was white and when I actually walked to the picture-taking spot, it turned red before I could snap it. But I did shoot the red and the blue stadium.

I visited the Neuschwanstein Schloss, the Swan Castle built by King Ludwig on one the hill. Having to climb the small hill plus the two hours train ride from Munich is worth the effort and the view of the entire fairy-tale castle from the hanging bridge is magnificent.

The weather in Europe this summer is terribly hot. I was so well tanned now. 35-39 C without aircondionting nor fan, on the train and in the hostel was just horrendous.

Prague, 6 hours of train from Munich, again I left my super heavy luggage in my friend's house, but i didn't reserve a seat as I didn't see 'Groups of German students travelling on graduation trip to Prague on the same day, same time as me' coming and I had to sit on the aisle for 6 bloody hours.

Prague gave me a first impression that it is Europe 10 years (or even more) back. Things are disorganised, a little bit unsafe, and hot hot hot. I think the weather spoilt my entire trip, I just didn't have the mood to sit there and enjoy the city under the scorching sun. But I did meet the Philipines couples competing live on the Amazing Race Asia, and I was taped as the female participant asked me 'if I see the red flag' that they were looking for, so watch out if MELVIN ever appear on AXN.

Bratislava, capital of Slovakia, i thought it should be more devastated and cheaper than Prague but I was wrong. It has not only more modern buildings than Prague, but also way more expensive, which I supposed is due to its 1 hour by train location from Vienna. BUT, Slovakian girl is seriously beautiful. Almost every girl on the street looks nice but speaks no english. I was in the city for 4 hours and left to Vienna.

Vienna, still hot, 'i will continue tomorrow....

Sayang, first, I named my blog after some Taiwan tabloids who likes to dig the dirty shit out of artists, and I did that to my ex UTM coursemates in my many previous entries in 2006.

Second, I write in English because my 'hang yu ping yin' is really lousy, it will take me 1 hour to write one paragraph and most likely i will give it up before finishing.

Third, yeah, never have time to do those 'Rome' ppt slides again. But will try to do it when I am free, which I guess I will not be in the coming 2 months.

Fourth, I am reaching Malaysia on 22th July and will be there until 2 Sept. Tolong Heboh-hebohkan. Finally, some real food. Before that, actually is this friday, I am leaving for Munich for 3 days, then head to Prague, Bratislava and Vienna for another 3 days, before going back to Munich to pick up my luggage to go to my final destination, Stockholm. I will take my flight back from Stockholm. I will use train all the way, and it's not that expensive since I bought the Interrail ticket (discount for European, and I am temporarily European, haha)

Fifth, my life is pretty well described in my many entries, I will feed you with more stories when we meet up in Malaysia.

Sixth, I heard your interview (downloaded it to hear the whole session) with the DJ on AiFM. I couldn't believe it in the beginning, thought it was a prank or something, but seriously my ex classmate was on RADIO, somebody that I know was on AIR live. How cool is that!

Seventh, I just checked my nuffnag analytics. There are visits from Singapore, cool, a new source. All the while, is just my friends in Malaysia and Italy and my sister in India. Haha

I was watching Federer defending his fifth consecutive Wimbledon titles. The very first time that I have seen he scrapped in Wimbledon, his favourite grass court. He never had this disappointment before, couldn't break Nadal's service since the first set. Nadal was very consistently good (and very lucky with all the calls and challenges) the whole afternoon until Federer fought back steathly. Adversity Quotient, being able to perform in adverse condition. Is that what he possessed to win the fifth set?

Italian has found a new excuse to party. The 'white night' was held to celebrate the start of summer, which is equal to long day and sun sets later than usual.

Let's see how the figures work, rough estimation

Population of SPM Candidates 360,000

Chinese candidates = 0.3*360,000 = 108,000

Percentage a chinese getting the JPA scholarship = 560/108,000 = 0.52%

That is like among 200 Chinese, only 1 will get the scholarship.

Fine, scholarship is meant for the poor.

But Lorenz Curve says that 80% of the wealth is controlled by the 20% of the population, so 80% are living on average income (who can't afford to study abroad on their own)

My Malaysian friend who studied in Telsanoliki, Greece. He was seen posting in his lecture room.The other students are on strikes because the Greek government finally decided to charge tuition fees.Before this, it is all free and even 3 meals are provided in the canteen.

Since they are getting free meals and carefree life, the students end up studying for more years than intended and gradually eat up the government fund. Mr. Kikilapolous decided that university will no free no more!

The students got annoyed since their paradise is being taken away and decided to go on a mass strike.The whole university was on strike for 10 months already and the only class that is still going on is the one my friend attended(since they are paying the fees).

The students even demonstrated their anger on the walls and whiteboards.

Ironically, during these whole 10 months, the food supplies haven't been stopped a single day!

So, what they basically do is to come to school without having to attend lectures but still get to enjoy the free meals and start protesting after they are fed!

The photos are not in chronological orders...let's start with the weather...it's f...ing hot...don't ever think of coming to Italy during Summer...its better off going to Dubai, they have airconditioning there. Which explains why I have to indulge myself in the famous Italian 'Gelato'.

Still the weather, it is very tiring walking under the scorching sun and I was seen resting on the 'boat' park (actually this was done on purpose to pose for the picture)..hhe

This is very interesting. Venetians have their cemetery on an island off the Venice island. I imagine they have to carry their coffin by the ferry (not a bad idea for those looking for a fussy funeral) to be buried on this island. It is very serene anyway. Clean and tidy, as usual. And yes, I saw somebody holding flowers taking the ferries, most probably to the deceased fafm.

They have a digital board showing when the ferry arrives, but as usual, not accurate at all...

The bridge is Ponte Rialto. and the guy (gondolier) with the gondola. I couldn't figure out why they have Gondolier in Black and Red stripes?

Italian Ragazze....

The best view of the Grand Canal, the ferry is their metro (for local but it costs like 6 euros per trip), and gondola is for tourist (100 per trip ;p) and water taxi (speed boat)

Boarding the gondola...no...i did not spend my fortune on that sampan trip.

The masks....the Festival was in February...off seasons...but I guess everybody got at least 1 mask with them back...

I watched the Champion's Leauge final between AC milan and Liverpool in this nice restaurant. They have the big screen and pretty waitress, plus their own brewery. The atmosphere was awesome, especially I was the only few cheering for Liverpool...haha...too bad...they couldn't repeat the miracle they did in 2005. No Greek legend huh...
By the way, it started raining halfway, and see....SkySports Italia has the same problem like Astro.....another proof of Italian system....but seriously, the fans are very crazy about football....

White water rafting

It reminds me of the only White Water Rafting I did during our graduation trip in Sabah.The experience was amazing. The current was strong and not recommended to do a capsize (overturn the boat).Where everybody inside the tube would fall and beign drifted with the swift current.

However, we requested and gathered those who wanted to join the 'fun' in one boat. We got ourselves an experienced natives of Sabahas our instructor. In the end, we did the 'capsize' twice and the moment that I fell and tried to resurface, I found the boat was just above me, and couldn't get the air I wanted...phew....

The second time, we drove ourselves into a real huge 漩涡 and I could see the 'Fei lou' who was sitting infront falling backwards onto me..amazing..

Well, everything only costed me like RM110 including train tickets to get there and lunch.

However, the train journey was the toughest 3 hours I had ever spent, on a train that was operating since 1950 i think....

A letter to the Pizza Hut Management--see what they can do

After seeing the promotions on the pasta by Pizza Hut on the TV. I decided to dine in Pizza Hut Segamat this evening, 18/06/2006, at 8pm. I ordered a Regular bolognaise Chicken Spaghetti and a Regular Arabicana penne and two drinks. Then the food arrived. A first timer, I was not aware that the plate of spaghetti I was eating was a large serving. I finished the food. The food was nice. The waitress took my order was nice too. However, when I paid the bill later at RM28.98. I was charged for the price of a Large bolognaise Chicken Spaghetti which is RM12.50, RM 4 more than the regular one.

Fine, I requested for a refund. The cashier, Mr. Sharizie or what, then said that I have eaten the food and I have to pay for it. I politely explained it to him and insisted a refund. He then approached a lady, his manager I guess, by her grey uniform. The manager then asked him to deduct the extra amount from the bill and she left. This cashier, who obviously did not know how to handle such bills, offered to pay me back RM4. Although the amount was not correct (where are the tax charged?), I hope to get home soon and took that offer.

The moment when I was about to open the door and leave the restaurant. This cashier blurted out a phrase in Malay :"Lain Kali Makan Pizza Aja La" in front of other public in the restaurant. He must have intended to embarass me in front of the public. I felt irritated and stood there for 5 minutes waiting for his apology, which did not come. I really hope to get home soon then and to avoid any more direct confrontations with such a hostile waiter, I left.

Obviously he wanted to go the easy way by squeezing out a RM4 from his pocket rather than following the correct manner to correct the bill, which i guess, will not cause him any harm. He is absurd in not knowing how to do it.

I hope the management can look into this matter seriously.

Am I supposed to pay for a wrong move/order of the restaurant?
Am I wrong in requesting for a refund?
Am I wrong in ordering a Regular spaghetti and being served with a Large portion?
Do I deserve to be embarassed in front of the public? I paid for what I ordered and ate. I did not go into your restaurant expecting this kind of service.

I seriously request a reply to this. Hope this embarassment will not happen to other customers again.

Sabah Graduation Trip (Day 1)

OMG..I can't believe this that I am blogging in the youth hostel I am staying in right here in Kota Kinabalu...

Woke up at 5.45am this morning and rushed to catch the flight at senai...my first time travelling on a plane le...although its only an Air-Asia...the pilot i believe is quite experienced for which he did not provide me, the passenger, the roller-coasting experience...haha

Then..checked in at this youth hostel...not bad...the environment....for RM20 a night with buffet breakfast somemore le....

Then...diving time...its many virgin dive for my coursemates....haha....pretty funny just watching them making all the funny moves..everybody is like that when they dive the very first time, right?

E...I dived too...twice...but the dive site is not as promising as those in Redang or even Tioman....btw...its Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, off-KK....however, I managed to catch a glimpse of lionfish, pipefish, sea turtle and many other tropical fish...lar..

Life after graduating

Things are so messy....starting from having the neverending farewell futsal...numerous farewell dinner.....passing up the thesis...sending things back to hometown...

And now, finally, I am feeling so relieved....nothing to worry about...at least for this few weeks lar...haha....

After my last paper of management and safety, which was quite hard...heavy rain pour right after the test gathered coursemates for very last time...

That night, I and few friends went for porridge steamboat...yeah...yet again....but i learnt new skill this time...next time make my own steamboat...haha

Then, we went for pool at the newly opened Pusat Latihan Snooke Tmn. U, what a noble name for a snooker centre..haha...but ended up playing snooker because there is no pool table there..till 11pm

11.30pm, changed into futsal gear, went for futsal at kempas...probably the last futsal match among SMM....played for 2 hours but paid for 1 n half hours...thanks to the lie of ...

2.30pm, reached home....bathe....

3pm...McDonalds drive through....wow..

5pm...reached home and planned to watch 黑社会。。。but we were just too tired....

That's just how I celebrated my unofficial graduation....simple yet enjoyable..

Flying After Diving: Remember the Rules

A few years ago, I took a dive trip to South Bimini. We dived on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning (70-foot dive, then a 40-foot dive each day). Sunday afternoon, about three to four hours after we surfaced from the last dive, we took a charter flight back to Fort Lauderdale. The pilot asked us if we had dived that day and then wanted to know our profile. He said that he would "keep the ceiling below 1,200." When I mentioned this to a friend recently, she wondered why we didn't get bent. At the time of the flight, I assumed that we were safe. The plane was a small twin-engine Cessna, holding about 12 passengers. Were we in danger of getting bent?

Your pilot was probably correct in that your diving pattern had been relatively safe from the point of view of onloading nitrogen before the flight. We get bubbles when we:

Ascend to the surface after a dive.
Ascend to altitude after a dive (a continuance of the dive while flying).
Ascend to a high altitude from the surface without pressurization.

Therefore, we need to allow a longer time to offgas nitrogen after diving (the same reason we spend a designated time on the surface between dives).

To answer your friend's question, you didn't get bent because you didn't have very much nitrogen in your system and you didn't fly high enough for what you did have to come out of solution as bubbles.

In two of his books on diving, Bruce Wienke says that we "should not worry too much about ascending to altitudes below 3,000 feet as far as sea level diving is concerned—corrections to ordinary protocols are minimal."

The most recent guidelines concerning flying after diving are:

A minimum surface interval of 12 hours is required before ascent in a commercial aircraft.
Wait an extended surface interval beyond 12 hours after daily, multiple dives for several days or dives that require decompression stops.
The deeper or longer the diving, the longer the duration recommended before flying.

These guidelines are for recreational diving and should not apply to commercial diving or nitrox diving. Because of the complex nature of decompression illness and because decompression schedules are based on unverifiable assumptions, there can never be a fixed flying-after-diving rule that can guarantee prevention of bends completely.

DAN is in the midst of a study concerning flying after diving. All reported cases of DCS after a single no-decompression dive have occurred when the pre-flight surface interval was 12 hours or less. After a repetitive dive, DCS occurred even at pre-flight surface intervals as long as 17 hours. The data so far suggest that the original recommendation of waiting 12 hours or more after making single no-decompression dives is reasonable. In addition, current research suggests that it may be wise to wait 17 hours or more after making repetitive dives. However, the research is as yet incomplete and further work is continuing.

These expectations may sound reasonbale. But often, these things won't happen!
So you end up frustrated and disappointed.

There's a better strategy:

Demand less, and instead, have preferences!

For things that are beyond your control, tell yourself:
"I would prefer this, but if things happen, it's OK too!"

This is really a change in mindset. It is a shift in attitude,
and it gives you more peace of mind...

You prefer that people are polite...but when they are rude, it doesn't ruin your day!

You prefer sunshine, but if it rains, it's OK too!

To become happier, we either need to:

change the world
change our thinking

It is easier to change our thinking!

It is not the problem that is the issue,
but rather it is your attitude attending the problem that is the problem.

It's not what happens to you that determines your happiness.
